Wait! You Made ART Out of That?

Handcrafted & Hand Painted Turtle on Table- Perfect Table Decor Crafted by rural Indian Artisans

From a lucky little turtle to an old computer monitor and forgotten music cassettes — the rather unexpected world of Indha.

Let me tell you what I love about Indha.

We can take something quite ordinary, give it a little imagination, bring in the magic of our artisans' hands, and end up with something that makes people stop and say, “Oh my! Where did you find this?”

Sometimes, it begins with a little turtle.

The turtle that comes bearing good wishes

Imagine opening a gift box and finding a small, hand-painted turtle inside. It is colourful, a little quirky and quite impossible to ignore. You find a place for it on your desk or bookshelf, and before long, someone asks you about it.

Now, did you know that in Feng Shui, the turtle is associated with longevity, stability, protection and good fortune?

At Indha, we like that thought. Perhaps you bring it home for its symbolism. Perhaps you simply fall for its little face and beautiful colours. Either way, we hope it brings a smile, a little cheer and a feeling of goodness into your space.

And if you gift it to someone, you are sending more than a painted object. You are sending a wish.

Not bad for a little turtle, is it?

But wait. We have more surprises up our sleeves.

An old computer monitor? Seriously?

You know that computer monitor that has been sitting in a storeroom, gathering dust because nobody quite knows what to do with it?

Well, we started looking at old monitors differently.

At Indha, we love the challenge of seeing possibilities where others might see waste. With imagination, colour and the skilled hands of our artisans, an old monitor can be transformed into an extraordinary canvas for Gond art.

And the transformation can be quite something.

Intricate patterns, beautiful colours and the distinctive visual language of Gond art give the object a completely new personality. What once belonged to an office desk can now become a striking piece of art in a home, a reception area or a workplace.

The reaction we love most? That wonderful moment of disbelief: “Oh my! This was an old monitor?”

Yes, it was!

For us, the pleasure lies in that moment when someone discovers the story behind the art. The material gets another life, the artisan's creativity gets a new audience, and an everyday object becomes something worth keeping.

We also love that Gond art, rooted in India's rich artistic heritage, can find admirers among people from different parts of the world. Art has a lovely way of travelling beyond borders.

And those old music cassettes? Don't throw them away just yet!

Some of us remember the days of carefully recording songs, exchanging cassettes and using a pencil to rewind a tape. Those little plastic cases once held hours of music and memories.

Today, many have been pushed aside by newer technology. But what if their story wasn't over?

Indha enjoys working with donated old cassettes and exploring how they can be recreated as wall décor. Something that might otherwise be discarded can become an unexpected design element for a home or office.

I particularly like the idea of these creations finding their way to people who enjoy asking questions, experimenting with ideas and looking at familiar things differently.

Perhaps you are someone who believes in innovation. Perhaps you work in design or technology. Perhaps you are simply tired of gifts that look like every other gift.

Or perhaps you are the sort of person who sees an old cassette and thinks, “There must be something we can do with this!”

We would get along rather well.

Because sustainability is not always about making grand statements. Sometimes, it begins with keeping an object out of the waste stream and giving it another purpose. It begins with design thinking, a little resourcefulness and the willingness to look again.

What if your next gift started a conversation?

Here is what I would love you to consider.

The next time you need a gift for a friend, a colleague, a client or a business partner, think beyond the usual choices.

A little turtle can carry good wishes. A Gond-inspired artwork made on a repurposed monitor can surprise someone who appreciates Indian art. A wall piece created from old cassettes can appeal to someone who champions innovation and sustainability.

And when organisations choose such creations for their gifting, they can share a story that goes beyond the object itself — one of creative reuse, handmade craftsmanship and livelihoods supported through the work of Indha's artisans.

Behind every creation is a person who has brought skill, patience and imagination to it. That matters to us as much as the finished piece.

Indha grew from the belief that traditional craft skills can create meaningful livelihoods while finding a place in contemporary life. We want our artisans' work to travel into more homes, offices and hearts, meeting people who appreciate both the beauty of a handmade object and the thought behind it.

So, shall we surprise you?

We would love to send a little Indha your way.

Into your home, where a hand-painted turtle might become a cheerful companion.

Into your office, where an old monitor transformed into art might become the most talked-about thing in the room.

Into your life as a gift-giver, where a thoughtfully repurposed creation might say something that an ordinary gift cannot.

And perhaps, into your thinking — because once you start looking at discarded things differently, you may never look at them quite the same way again.

We don't promise that every old object will become a masterpiece. But we do believe that imagination, craftsmanship and a little willingness to experiment can take us to some rather interesting places.

At Indha, that is part of the fun.

So, the next time you see something old, don't be too quick to say goodbye. You never know what it might become.

And if you happen to bring home a little turtle, well, may it bring a little goodness along with it!
