Capt. Indraani Singh

INDHA – An Initiative of Literacy India’s Karigari Programme Founded by Capt. Indraani Singh, INDHA has evolved from the rich foundation of Literacy India’s Karigari programme, which has empowered women and youth through skill development, craftsmanship, and livelihood creation for over two decades. Karigari remains the mother platform from which INDHA emerged, carrying forward its commitment to dignity through work, creativity, and entrepreneurship. At its core, INDHA celebrates the intersection of traditional craftsmanship, innovation, and sustainability. Over the years, its focus on environmentally responsible products has grown significantly, transforming discarded and underutilized materials into unique, handcrafted creations with purpose and value. What began with recycled paper crafts has expanded into a diverse collection of sustainable lifestyle and décor products. INDHA artisans create exquisite hand-painted pieces on discarded computer monitors, tablets, computer mice, electronic components, old bottles, bottle caps, and other materials that would otherwise contribute to landfill waste. Through imagination and skilled craftsmanship, these discarded objects are reimagined as distinctive works of art.The initiative is equally known for its textile innovations. Women artisans produce a wide range of fashion accessories and utility products using upcycled fabrics, denim remnants, patchwork techniques, and leftover textile materials. Each product reflects a commitment to reducing waste while creating contemporary designs that appeal to modern consumers.Hand embroidery remains a hallmark of INDHA’s identity. Drawing upon India's rich craft traditions, artisans create unique embroidery patterns and handcrafted embellishments that add character and individuality to every product. By combining traditional skills with contemporary aesthetics, INDHA preserves craft heritage while creating market-relevant opportunities for artisans.Beyond product creation, INDHA serves as a platform for economic empowerment. It enables women to move from skill acquisition to entrepreneurship by providing training, design support, quality standards, production experience, and market exposure. The initiative nurtures confidence, creativity, and leadership while helping artisans build sustainable livelihoods.Every INDHA product tells a story—of transformation, resourcefulness, craftsmanship, and opportunity. Whether through recycled paper, repurposed electronics, reclaimed bottles, upcycled textiles, or intricate hand embroidery, the initiative demonstrates how sustainability and social impact can work together to create meaningful change.Today, INDHA stands as a testament to Literacy India’s belief that creativity can drive livelihoods, sustainability can inspire innovation, and skilled artisans can become leaders of change within their communities. By transforming waste into value and talent into opportunity, INDHA continues to craft not only products, but also brighter futures.
