Our Founder & the Indha Story

Charting New Horizons: Capt. Indraani Singh’s Mission to Empower India:

Capt. Indraani Singh

Capt. Indraani Singh is a pilot by training and a craft curator by choice. As Managing Partner of Indha Craft, she works closely with each woman artisan – matching her to what she does best:
smart, precise stitching; fine Kantha and hand embroidery; vivid crochet; careful painting; or designing with waste to create high-end upcycled products.

Indha is her way of proving that 'Made in India' and 'handmade' still bring joy in a world racing towards automation and AI. Every product carries a story of skill, patience, and dignity – created in small batches by rural women who earn a fair income while keeping India’s craft traditions alive.

Through Literacy India and Indha, Singh has helped thousands of women move from daily-wage insecurity to steady livelihoods in textiles, accessories, home décor and upcycled design. Her role is part mentor, part designer, and part talent matchmaker – ensuring that the right artisan works on the right craft, so quality, pride, and livelihood all grow together.

Our Vision

To create sustainable, dignified livelihoods for women in rural India through high-quality, handcrafted and upcycled products – so that every Indha piece carries both beauty and opportunity.

  • To ensure that rural women can earn a stable income using their own hands and skills.
  • To build craft clusters where Kantha, embroidery, crochet, stitching, block printing, fabric painting and upcycling meet contemporary design.
  • To use Indha’s profits to support the education and skilling programmes of Literacy India, completing the circle from learning to livelihood.

Short-term goals

  • Short-term Provide regular work and income to a minimum of 350 trained women artisans through Indha’s product lines.
  • Strengthen design support so more artisans can upgrade from basic stitching to value-added work such as fine embroidery, detailed crochet, and upcycled design.

Long-term goals

  • Increase the number of active women artisans to 1,500+ across clusters.
  • Scale revenue responsibly and sustainably so that Indha can contribute more to Literacy India’s education projects.
  • Build robust marketing and sales channels for ethical, handcrafted, Made-in-India products across domestic and global markets.
  • Offer companies a ready CSR and sustainability partner – from artisan livelihoods and upcycled corporate gifting to women-led supply chains.
